Palo Alto Software — which, despite the name, has long been based in Eugene — is looking for a Quality Assurance Automation Engineer to join our growing product development team. You will be working primarily on our popular LivePlan service (, which helps tens of thousands of entrepreneurs start, run, and grow their businesses. This position is located at our fantastic new company headquarters at the top of the Broadway Commerce Building in the heart of downtown Eugene.

To succeed in this role, you will need a proven track record of learning new technologies, persistence in tracking down problems, understanding the context of the testing problem, and working effectively on a development team with a strong focus on quality and customer experience.

Responsibilities of this position include:

  • Creating, maintaining, and refactoring Selenium WebDriver tests
  • Creating and maintaining JMeter load tests
  • Reporting bugs in Jira
  • Verifying new features and bugs
  • Working with product owners, developers, and other QA team members to gain understanding of features and issues
  • Creating and maintaining documentation about test procedures

A strong applicant will have all of the following:

  • Top-notch creative testing skills, curiosity, and persistence
  • 1 year or more of experience writing Selenium WebDriver tests
  • 1 year or more of experience writing load tests with JMeter
  • Beginner to intermediate experience with Java
  • Experience using Jira or similar issue tracking software
  • Proficiency in SQL and executing back-end database validations
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills and a proven ability to collaborate with team members
  • 4-year degree in Computer Science, related field, or related experience
  • At least a year of professional QA experience

Capabilities in these areas are a big plus:

  • Experience with continuous development and deployment processes and the role of automation testing
  • Strong understanding of how software is designed and built
  • Experience with Git or similar code revision control systems
  • Experience working as part of an agile/scrum development team
  • Knowledge on the strengths and weaknesses of each major browser
